Actress Nidhhi Agerwal appeared before the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office in Hyderabad on Friday, over her alleged in connection with an online-betting-games promotion case. Prior to this, the actress had been served a legal notice to appear for an inquiry.
In the visuals surfacing online, Niddhi was seen exiting the CID office in Hyderabad. According to reports, she was questioned for about 30 minutes in connection with the ongoing probe into an online betting app racket.
CID officials revealed that she was examined by the special investigation team. The actress has been is accused of promoting the gaming site JeetWin through pop-up advertisements. She is among six actors and 19 Influencers named as accused for promoting online betting and gaming platforms on social media.
Along with Niddhi Agerwal, TV anchors Sreemukhi and Amruta Chowdary were also reportedly questioned by the officials over their promotion of various betting sites.
Notably, Rana Daggubati had also appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in August after being summoned regarding the alleged online betting games promotion case. While leaving the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office post interrogation, Rana Daggubati said, "We are going to use the right ways to communicate the right message about gaming and gaming apps. The legalities will be completed later. But I am here to do whatever is needed to help spread the message."
For the unversed, earlier this year on March 19, the Telangana police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 25 celebrities and influencers, including prominent names like figures like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, Manchu Lakshmi, Praneetha, Nidhi Agarwal, Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Varshini Sounderajan and many others for allegedly promoting illegal betting and gambling apps on their social media platforms.
The FIR was filed following a petition by 32-year-old businessman PM Phanindra Sarma at the Miyapur Police Station in Hyderabad. Sarma's petition stresses that these apps and platforms cause widespread financial harm, especially among lower and middle-class families who are lured into the false promise of easy money.
The FIR also reportedly includes sections that address the promotion of illegal betting activities. The investigation is now being handled by Officer G Ramesh Naidu. "This investigation underscores our commitment to protecting the public from harmful gambling and betting platforms that exploit individuals for financial gain," said K Kranthi Kumar, Inspector of Police, Police Stations Miyapur.
