When Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan missed its January 9 release date, a major box-office clash was averted. Prabhas's Telugu drama The RajaSaab was also scheduled for a January 9 release. As Jana Nayagan failed to make it to the scheduled date, screens were allotted to The RajaSaab and Sivakarthikeyan's Tamil drama Parasakthi, which released in theatres on January 10. Despite this advantage, both films are struggling at the box office.

The RajaSaab box office

The RajaSaab opened to mixed reviews, with several criticisms directed at the film, issues that were later addressed by the makers. However, owing to the hype surrounding the project, it managed a massive opening. Unfortunately, the film failed to sustain its momentum and has seen a steady dip in collections over the past few days.

The film recorded single-digit collections on its first Monday at the box office. According to Sacnilk, The RajaSaab collected Rs 5.4 crore on Monday. On its opening day, the film earned a strong Rs 53.75 crore, which dropped to Rs 26 crore on Saturday and further declined to Rs 19.1 crore on Sunday. The sharp fall on Monday has taken the film's total collection to Rs 113.4 crore. The budget of The RajaSaab is reportedly around Rs 400 crore.

A day after the film's theatrical release, the makers added a four-minute sequence featuring Prabhas in an old-man get-up.

Speaking at a press conference, director Maruthi said, "Prabhas fans aren't disappointed with the film, but they aren't fully satisfied either. That's because we showcased him in an old get-up with attitude and swag in the trailer. While searching for that look, fans couldn't fully process the story I was presenting."

He added, "Keeping that in mind, I sat down last evening to sharpen the second half and include the missing scenes starting from today's 6 PM show. I'm confident the 8-9 minute episode will be mind-blowing. No film has depicted a rooftop fight sequence like this before. Prabhas worked very hard for it."

Parasakthi box office

On the other hand, Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi has fared worse than The RajaSaab on its first Monday. According to Sacnilk, the film collected less than Rs 2 crore on Monday. On its opening day, Saturday, the film earned Rs 12.5 crore, which dipped to Rs 10.1 crore on day two.

On day three, it's first Monday, Parasakthi earned Rs 1.98 crore nett in India as per early estimates. So far, the film has collected Rs 24.58 crore. The film recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 18.05 percent on Monday.
