After spending more than three decades working across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Marathi cinema, actor Murli Sharma is stepping into the OTT space for the first time. The veteran actor will make his streaming debut with Super Subbu, which also marks Netflix's first-ever Telugu Original series.

Premiering on July 2, the comedy-drama stars Murli Sharma as Kukkuteshwar Rao, a strict and traditional father whose world is turned upside down when his son decides to become a sex education teacher. Set in the fictional village of Maakipur, the series blends humour, family relationships and social commentary.

Murli said Super Subbu balances comedy with meaningful conversations, making it a story that entertains while addressing subjects people are often hesitant to discuss.

"This is the kind of story that will make you laugh while also gently encouraging conversations that you are not very comfortable having," he said, adding that the series naturally weaves together humour, family dynamics and social themes without losing its emotional core.

The actor also expressed excitement about being part of Netflix's first Telugu Original, calling it a special milestone in his career. Speaking about the cast, Murli shared that he already had a strong rapport with co-star Sundeep Kishan after working together on multiple films. He also reunited with director Mallik, with whom he had collaborated previously, and actress Mithila Palkar, making the shoot an enjoyable experience.

Murli revealed that he first heard about Super Subbu while shooting Tillu Square, when director Mallik mentioned he was writing the series and had him in mind for the role. Once the script was officially narrated, he was immediately drawn to the character of Kukkuteshwar Rao.

Describing his role, Murli said Kukkuteshwar Rao, fondly known as "Kuku" in the colony, is rigid, disciplined and often irritating, but that's exactly what makes him entertaining. He added that the team's approach to the character's mannerisms, body language and dialogue delivery would make him memorable for audiences.

Alongside Murli Sharma, Super Subbu stars Sundeep Kishan and Mithila Palkar in lead roles. Set against the backdrop of Maakipur, the series promises a mix of comedy, heartfelt emotions and family drama while exploring conversations that are rarely discussed openly.

Super Subbu premieres exclusively on Netflix on July 2.
