Days after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, TVK chief Vijay was seen visiting holy shrines to seek blessings ahead of the exit polls. After visiting the Subramanya Swamy Temple and the Sai Baba Temple, he was expected to visit the Lady of Good Health in Tamil Nadu's Velankanni. Vijay's fans posted themselves near the church's entrance in the hope of getting a glimpse of the former actor. However, he didn't turn up.
On Saturday, Vijay was scheduled to visit the Annai Velankanni Shrine and the Nagore Dargah, but his plans were called off for undisclosed reasons. The sudden change left fans confused, many of whom had already gathered in large numbers. The crowd swelled to a point where church officials reportedly struggled to manage entry and open the doors smoothly. Even after it was confirmed that Vijay would not be attending, people continued to wait at the venue for hours.
Another video shows fans inside the church with their phones out, cheering and anticipating his arrival. In a clip shared by PTTV, some are heard loudly chanting "TVK" despite being within the church premises. Church authorities later urged them to maintain silence and respect the sanctity of the space, as Mass was about to begin. Several users online criticised the behaviour, calling it a lack of civic sense.
Vijay's visit to the shrine comes a day before counting is set to begin for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where his party, TVK, is contesting to challenge the M. K. Stalin-led DMK. Polling for all 234 seats across Tamil Nadu took place on April 23.
The actor is all set to quit films and transition to politics. However, the journey has not been smooth for him. He faced legal trouble after a campaign in Karur led to a stampede and resulted in the deaths of many who had come to support him.
Apart from this, the actor is in the news as his last release, Jana Nayagan, is in limbo due to CBFC clearance issues. He has also faced trouble as the film got leaked online, with the film editor facing legal action. Additionally, his wife, Sangeetha Vijay, has reportedly filed for divorce, accusing him of infidelity.
