The small screen's ACP Pradyuman (Shivaji Satam) and his team of officers are celebrating the completion of 17 years of their show, CID, with a special telecast on Republic Day. The longest-running show on Indian television is the brainchild of the show's producer B P Singh.

Shivaji Satam

Interestingly, Satam's character's name was named after mid-day's erstwhile Deputy Editor Pradyuman Maheshwari in 1998. Says Singh, "I have been a regular reader of mid-day. I did not want a common name and I liked the name Pradyuman which appeared in mid-day.

So, I just stole it." There is another mid-day connect - one of the early writers of CID, Shridhar Raghavan, used to write for the paper.

Adds Singh, "Shridhar and his brother writer-director Sriram Raghavan were associated with CID before their turned to Bollywood." In fact, Sriram literally forced Singh to enact the character of Saif Ali Khan's boss, RAW agent Hasan Nawaz, in his 2012 film Agent Vinod. "Sriram told me as the film was about a detective, you have to be a part of it," says Singh.
