Akanksha Chamola has broken her silence on reports that she is seeking Rs 10 crore as alimony from her estranged husband, actor Gaurav Khanna, amid their ongoing divorce proceedings. The Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa contestant has dismissed the reports, saying she has not demanded the amount being discussed online.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Akanksha was asked directly about the rumour that she was seeking Rs 10 crore from Gaurav as part of their separation. Responding to the claim, she said, "Agar manga hota aur agar mil gaya hota to main yaha baithti." She further added, "Agar sach mein mere paas itne paise hote na to main kab ka ye desh chhod kar chali gayi hoti."
Her comments come after social media speculation around her divorce intensified following Orry's remarks about the couple's separation. Speaking about the matter, Orry had suggested that Akanksha would receive something from Gaurav as part of the divorce. The comment subsequently fuelled discussion around the alleged Rs 10 crore alimony.
Akanksha also addressed the criticism she has faced online, including comments referring to her as a "sugar daddy seeker". She pointed out that men in their 30s, 40s or 50s are sometimes described as sugar daddies and, referring to her marriage to Gaurav, said, "10 saal bada sugar daddy nahi ho sakta hai."
The actor also clarified another detail that has caught the attention of social media users. Despite their separation, her Instagram username continues to be "Akanksha Gaurav Khanna". Addressing why she has not changed it, Akanksha said the issue was technical and blamed Meta for not allowing her to make the change. "Meta wale kar nahi rahe hain," she said.
Akanksha and Gaurav tied the knot on November 24, 2016, in a three-day wedding celebration in Kanpur, Gaurav's hometown. After nearly a decade of marriage, Akanksha publicly confirmed their separation during the premiere of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa in June this year.
She revealed that the couple had been living separately for around a year and maintained that the decision was mutual. According to Akanksha, there was no bad blood between them. She explained that they had realised they were no longer compatible as partners and wanted different things from their respective futures.
With the divorce still being discussed publicly, Akanksha's latest clarification puts the spotlight back on the Rs 10 crore alimony claim, which she has firmly denied.
