Mary Kom has been grabbing headlines for her stint on Bigg Boss 20, but the boxer is now facing fresh trouble outside the reality show. Her ex-husband, Onler Kom, has filed a criminal defamation case against her over alleged disparaging remarks. The legal development comes amid their long-standing disputes and allegations concerning their finances.
As per a report in Hindustan Times, Onler has filed a criminal defamation case against ex-wife Mary Kom for making disparaging remarks against him. The case has been filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with defamation. If convicted under the provision, the punishment can extend to imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for November 19, 2026.
Mary had previously made allegations against Onler concerning their finances. She alleged that he had cheated her of crores of rupees earned through her boxing career. She also claimed that loans had been taken in her name, that her property had been mortgaged, and that assets had been transferred into his name without her proper consent.
Mahhi Vijj and Mary Kom recently clashed over cooking responsibilities and meals. "Mary gives more food to those she associates with and not to me," said Mahhi. Mary denied the same and advised Mahhi against making such comments. The discussion led to a war of words between the two, as both competitors urged each other to choose their words carefully.
The six-time world champion boxer got emotional during one of her conversations with Isha Rikhi and opened up about one of the darkest phases of her life. She recalled a period when she felt broken and said she had thought about ending her life. She revealed that her young children became a reason for her to keep going.
Mary Kom and Onler got married in 2005 after dating for some time. The couple welcomed their first son in 2013, followed by twin boys in 2017. In 2018, they adopted a daughter, fulfilling Mary's wish to have a girl.
Following several disputes, Mary Kom confirmed in 2023 that she and Onler had divorced under Kom customary law.
