CID continues to be one of Indian television's most popular shows. After building a massive fan following for over two decades, the crime thriller series drew its curtains in 2025, leaving many heartbroken. The show premiered on Sony Entertainment Television in 1998, and shortly became a household favourite. The show ended its two-decade-long run in 2018, before returning for a second season in 2024, which unfortunately ended in 2025.

Dayanand Shetty reveals Lata Mangeshkar supported the show

Now, in a latest interview with Siddharth Kannan, Dayanand Shetty, who played Inspector Daya in CID, revealed how late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was a huge fan of the show. He added that she even fought to save the show when it was pulled off air.

Dayanand Shetty, who recently raised his voice against the NEET paper leak, said, "Lata ji was such a big fan. She loved us. She was a big support for us. Even when the show went off air, she fought for us. She even called Sony America and the channel in India. She told them, ‘I watch this program, why do you have a problem? Why are you shutting the show?'"

Dayanand Shetty blames internal politics for CID going off air

When questioned about the reason behind the show shutting down so abruptly, Dayanand replied, "There was internal politics. It is hurting them now. Why would we care? We moved on. Maybe, someone in the channel had a personal vendetta. They started from 2016. They wanted to replace our producers, which the actors did not agree to."

He went on to add, "We don't know Sony. The show just came on that channel, but we belonged to Fireworks Production. For 21 years, we had no legal contracts, didn't even sign a single page. Everything was verbal between us and Uppoor sahab (Pradeep Uppoor, co-owner of Fireworks). When they wanted to get new producers in 2016, they were shocked to know that artistes don't have any contracts. It was a surprise for them."

Years after shutting down, CID made a comeback with its second season on December 21, 2024. The show also began streaming on Netflix from February 21, 2025. However, CID 2 went off air within a year, with the last episode airing in December 2025.

CID featured Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman, Aditya Srivastava as Sr. Inspector Abhijeet, Dayanand Shetty as Sr. Inspector Daya, Dinesh Phadnis as Inspector Fredricks and Narendra Gupta as Dr Salunkhe.
