Comedian Harsh Gujral is all set to take on a new challenge as he joins Khatron Ke Khiladi. In an exclusive conversation with Mid-day, the comedian opened up about saying yes to the stunt-based reality show instantly, preparing for the physically demanding tasks, and why he hopes the new season introduces completely unexpected stunts.
Speaking about joining the show, Harsh said he has always felt connected to the idea of "khatra" since childhood. "I have been playing with Khatron since childhood. I am from UP, I was born in Kanpur. I was born with khatron," he joked.
Adding his trademark humour to the conversation, he continued, "I was born after three sisters, so I was khatra." Harsh recalled watching the show during his college days and never imagining that one day he would become a contestant himself. "When the show came to us, it has been going on for so many years. I think it started when we were in college. As an audience, as a viewer, watching and becoming a part of this show today⦠as soon as it came to us, we said yes without thinking."
The comedian revealed that he did not even ask the makers about the challenges or dangerous animals involved in the show before agreeing. "We didn't even ask which animals are there. I said any animal, they can push us from anywhere, we don't have any problem," he laughed.
Harsh also shared that he spent the last two months preparing himself physically and mentally for the adventure reality show. "In the last two months, we have prepared for it. We started paying a little attention to ourselves and got a little better," he said.
Interestingly, Harsh credited his experience on another reality show, The Traitors, for giving him confidence about performing stunts. "We did Traitors, in which we found out that we can also do some stunts. We used to jump from water, so from there we found out that no, we can do it," he explained.
For Harsh, joining Khatron Ke Khiladi is also about growth and self-improvement. "There is always an upgrade in life, I think. Whenever you are in any phase, whenever you get a chance to upgrade, you should definitely do it," he said.
The comedian also had a suggestion for host Rohit Shetty. Harsh said he hopes the new season includes surprise challenges that contestants would never expect. "I feel that the stunts that used to happen in the old seasons, there should be a new stunt. Because the old ones, people will come after watching the episode knowing there will be water, height or locks to open," he shared.
Calling for something completely unpredictable, he added, "Rohit Bhai, Rohit Shetty, do such a stunt in the middle⦠no one should know about this. Then it will feel that all the players will be fresher there."
While Harsh insists he is not scared easily, he admitted that certain creepy crawlies might still test his courage. "The girls who are afraid of cockroaches, we run and kill them. But 1.5 kg cockroach is not someone's daily work," he joked.
