Television actor Sumeet Sachdev recently shared a frightening health scare that left both him and his family shaken. The Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 actor revealed that he nearly lost his life after accidentally choking on a piece of food while having dinner at home.
Speaking about the incident in a video shared on social media, Sumeet explained that what began as an ordinary meal quickly turned into a life-threatening situation. The actor recalled that a piece of food became lodged in his throat, making it impossible for him to breathe.
"It was very scary," Sumeet admitted, describing the terrifying moments when he realised something was seriously wrong. He said he tried to cough the food out but was unsuccessful, and within seconds, panic set in as he struggled for air.
The actor revealed that his family immediately sprang into action after noticing that he was unable to breathe or speak. Their quick response proved crucial in preventing the situation from becoming even more dangerous.
Recalling the incident, Sumeet shared, "I was having dinner when suddenly the food got stuck in my throat. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't speak, and I couldn't even ask for help. It all happened within a few seconds. It was very scary."
Fortunately, a family member was aware of the Heimlich manoeuvre a first-aid technique used to dislodge an object blocking a person's airway. Acting swiftly, they performed the manoeuvre, eventually helping remove the food lodged in Sumeet's throat.
Expressing gratitude, the actor said, "Thankfully, someone at home knew the Heimlich manoeuvre and performed it correctly. That is what saved my life."
Following the traumatic experience, Sumeet urged everyone to familiarise themselves with basic first-aid techniques, stressing that such knowledge can make the difference between life and death during emergencies.
"I genuinely feel everyone should know the Heimlich manoeuvre. You never know when such an emergency can happen. It can save a life," he said.
The actor also reminded people not to ignore choking incidents or assume they will resolve on their own. Instead, he encouraged families to educate themselves about emergency response measures so they can act quickly if someone begins choking.
