The makers of Money Heist have officially confirmed that the world of La Casa de Papel is continuing to expand. The news comes nearly five years after the acclaimed original series concluded its five-season run in 2021.
On Sunday, Netflix released a new teaser titled "The world of Money Heist continues", hinting that the franchise continues to remain active beyond its existing spin-offs and adaptations. The announcement was shared through the official La Casa de Papel Instagram account, which posted a red-and-black themed promotional clip carrying the message, which read, "El Bella Ciao SIGUE sonando. El universo de 'La casa de papel' continua," which translates "Bella Ciao is STILL playing. The world of 'Money Heist' continues" in English.
The latest announcement of expansion comes ahead of the release of Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, the second season of the Pedro Alonso-led prequel series, Berlin. The new instalment of the spin-off is scheduled to premiere globally on May 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, speculation around future instalments continues, which includes reports of possible police-focused spin-offs or a continuation of the original series involving the Professor, played by Alvaro Morte. However, there no official confirmation issued by Netflix on what the next chapter of the series is going to be.
Originally created by Alex Pina, La Casa De Papel, in Spanish, became one of the most successful international series in streaming history. Money Heist turned red jumpsuits, Dali masks and the anthem Bella Ciao into globally recognised pop culture symbols.
The series revolves around two long-prepared heists led by the Professor, Alvaro Morte, one on the Royal Mint of Spain and one on the Bank of Spain. The franchise has emerged as one of Netflix's most-watched non-English language series.
The series was initially planned to be a two-part limited series, with an original run of 15 episodes on the Spanish network Antena 3 between May 2, 2017, and November 23, 2017. Netflix then acquired global streaming rights in late 2017 and re-cut the series into 22 shorter episodes, releasing them worldwide, beginning with the first part on December 20, 2017, followed by the second part on April 6, 2018. In April that year, Netflix renewed the series with a significantly increased budget for 16 new episodes total. Part 3 had eight episodes and was released on July 19, 2019, while Season 4, with eight episodes, was released on April 3, 2020.
