The latest episode of India's Got Latent is now streaming on Netflix, with actors Varun Dhawan and Medha Shankr joining Samay Raina on the panel. While Shankr largely escaped Raina's trademark roasting, Varun found himself at the centre of several jokes, with the comedian taking aim at everything from nepotism to the actor's films.
Varun, however, took the jibes sportingly and even said, "It is important to laugh at yourself." Welcoming Varun to the show, Samay asked him how he was feeling. Referring to the controversy surrounding the show last year, Varun joked, "I feel like I could get bail if something happens." Samay quickly responded, "Again, only because of your dad." Varun laughed and agreed, repeating, "Yeah, only because of my dad."
The conversation then turned towards the controversy involving India's Got Latent. Varun asked Samay if he had changed after the FIR. Samay replied that having major celebrities such as Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan on his show was the biggest thing that had happened since the FIR. He then added the punchline, "The show just keeps going downhill."
Varun revealed that he had been a fan of Latent since its first season and used to watch the show frequently. When he mentioned that he had shown a few episodes to his father, Samay asked whether he watched it with his parents. Recreating the infamous Ranveer Allahbadia moment that led to Latent row, Samay asked, "Would you rather watch Latent alone, or join and watch it with your parents?" Varun jokingly replied, "I would just watch it alone. That's it."
Samay then asked Varun if he had expected something to go wrong with the show. Varun began saying that he knew "something would go off", prompting Samay to complete the thought: "And it has. You are here." Varun laughed and admitted, "It really did go off."
The comedian also took a dig at Varun's upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. After congratulating him on the movie, Samay pretended to forget its title. When Varun reminded him, Samay quipped, "Hai papa director toh actor hona hai."
The roasting continued during a magic act. When the contestant asked who was the most intelligent person on the panel, Samay chose Varun, adding, "He was Student of the Year." However, the sharpest jab came when Varun picked the number one during the magician's act. Samay asked why he had "gone and ruined Border 2." Varun immediately defended the film, saying, "That movie worked, man!" Despite the relentless jokes, Varun appeared to take the banter in good humour, making his appearance one of the episode's highlights.
