Make your kids learn lessons of life through an interative theatre session

Author Ruskin Bond has a knack for writing simple tales with deep rooted themes that make for meaningful life coaching. Based on his story The Blue Umbrella, storytelling group The Secret Passages, Lessons of Life is staging a musical play with interactive theatre called Binya ki Chathri. What's interesting is that this play is also a part of a special programme with author Zarine Menon, who will teach kids to make artful creation of salads, thereby sharing the importance of raw foods.

As for the play, there'll be use of natural sound instruments, involving body movements and dance to enhance expressions. Recycled resources like dupattas and boxes will be used to explain the importance of going green. "We believe stories heal, perpetuate and helps bring in change - in perception and in action. We aim to help rediscover the wisdom within and connect to one's inner self," says Secret Passage founder Geetanjali Shetty Kaul, who has been in the field of education for 20 years. The Blue Umbrella is a story she resonates with. "It is simple in its text and yet profound in the levels of learnings that take place," says Kaul.

At the end of the play, there will be hour-long workshop for kids. "Here, we discuss their favourite characters and scene. Children are divided in mini groups and attempt is made to bring out a storyteller in each child. Post that, they are given a prop and they are supposed to weave a story on possession, loss, finding and letting go," informs Kaul. The session is open to kids between four and 10 years
