A global Marathi language centre, which will promote the Indian language and its literature worldwide, will be opened in London in the next two months, a Maharashtra cabinet minister said on Tuesday.

Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant said work is progressing at a rapid pace on establishing a Marathi Bhasha Bhavan in Mumbai and the building will be ready by 2027.

Talking to reporters here, Samant said the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharashtra Global Marathi Bhasha Centre will be opened in London in the next two months.

He said the Marathi Bhasha Department will post a Marathi Language officer in every district of the state.

"The work (on Marathi Bhasha Bhavan in Mumbai) is progressing at a rapid pace and it will be completed in 2027," Samant informed.

Hitting out at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray without naming him over the Marathi Bhasha Bhavan issue, the cabinet minister said the completion of the building will put an end to "fake narrative" related to the project.

During the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls earlier this year, Thackeray had accused the BJP-led Mahayuti government of putting the project in cold storage.

He said after Marathi got classical language status, the relevant department has decided to open Marathi Bhasha Vikas Kendras in Ratnagiri, Nashik, Nagpur, Pune, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati.

These centres will help in promoting research in Marathi language. Whatever help is required will be provided to students and researchers, the minister assured
