Discover the remains of history around the contours of a sleepy island, that was once part of original Bombay

On the walk, you will pass the church of St Peter's School

Mazagaon was one of the seven islands that made up the city of original Bombay. There are three claims on the linguistic origin of its nomenclature - Sanskrit, Marathi and Portuguese - and multiple claimants, including the Mughals and the British.

Sabrina Modak, who teaches French and is a lover of Mumbai, will conduct a two-hour walk of Mazagaon this weekend. It has been organised by Journeys Imagined, a city-based heritage walk group co-founded by Modak and Zeenat Kagalwala, a few months ago.

"We picked Mazagaon because it is simply beautiful with its diversity. Moreover, it is relatively quiet which gave us the freedom to conduct the walk even during the afternoon," she says. The walk will be mostly around the peaceful residential quarters.
