Pyaasa

The thing about classics is that they are all out there, it is just a matter you being able to discover them. One such film is Pyaasa. It is never late to encounter Pyaasa but a reason always helps.

This Guru Dutt masterpiece that released in 1957, has been restored by Ultra, the owners of its rights, and will be screened at the MAMI festival that starts October 29.

This film about a poet and his struggle with truth, is arguably Dutt's best work and is the kind of cinema that tends to get you addicted; making you watch it frame by frame savouring the lines and the moments.

The lines, after all, have been written by Abrar Alvi and the songs by Sahir Ludhianvi. The classic hits were sung by Geeta Dutt and Hemanta Kumar and the music was by SD Burman; perhaps, a reason enough to log on to YouTube and watch the previous version for Rs 100 even if you miss it at the festival.
