'Help! My temper ruins all my relationships'

I am an extremely angry person. I have been told this by a lot of people for years, but have only begun to take this seriously over the past year or so because every relationship I have been in has ended on account of my behaviour. How can I change that?

Q. I am an extremely angry person. I have been told this by a lot of people for years, but have only begun to take this seriously over the past year or so because every relationship I have been in has ended on account of my behaviour. How can I change that?
A. There's nothing wrong with anger if it is used to drive you to do things better, or vent your frustrations. Too much of it is destructive though, and the fact that you want to change is a first step in the right direction. Do a bit of introspection to try and figure out what triggers this emotion. Work on communication, because not being able to convey how you feel can exacerbate it. Be honest with the person you're with, so they can help you control how you feel. And please listen to music, because it helps. Avoid Yo Yo Honey Singh though.

Q. I am 21 and go to a popular college full of confident people my age. I somehow feel as if I am the only one who isn't confident enough to participate in anything there, be it a simple discussion at lunch or an extracurricular activity. Is there anything I can do about this?
A. Self-confidence is great, of course, and has a big role to play in the success of a great number of people. You have to keep in mind that it isn't the only reason for success either. You're 21. Chances are it will take you a few years more just to figure out who you are, and what you want to do, before you feel more confident. There are no quick fixes for this. Focus on things you are confident of, your work for instance. Ask close friends to help you with body language, which plays a huge role, and try being more positive about things because positivity drives confidence. Don't obsess about this for too long either. Remember, some of the dumbest people in India are also incredibly self-confident. Look at our politicians or film stars.
