My girlfriend doesn't like watching any of the films I like. She insists on documentaries, which I find boring. If we can't agree on watching something together, can this relationship last? Should I ask her to try harder?

Q. My girlfriend doesn't like watching any of the films I like. She insists on documentaries, which I find boring. If we can't agree on watching something together, can this relationship last? Should I ask her to try harder?
A. Try harder to do what? Waste her life on Salman Khan movies just because you have no taste? Why does she need to like the same kind of movies you do? She is entitled to her own likes and dislikes. And if you believe this relationship won't last because she won't tailor her preferences to suit yours, you're probably right.

Q. I am a 16-year-old girl. A friend of mine proposed to me a year ago and I accepted. We have been in a relationship for a month now, but he doesn't text me ever, either by SMS or WhatsApp. I am always the one who has to message first. He told a friend of mine that he had broken up with someone, but said he was joking when I asked him about it. He says he misses me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me. He is a year older than me and I don't know if I should continue this relationship. Please help me.
A. 16 is absolutely no age for you to worry about whether or not you should spend your life with someone. Aren't there other things you should currently spend more time on, such as your education or career choices? From what you say, this boyfriend of yours is in no position to decide what he wants to do in life either, hence his poor communication skills and drastic promises. He is obviously causing you a certain amount of stress, which you simply don't need at this point. Get your life on track, and worry about finding someone you want to spend the rest of your life with when you're satisfied with where you are professionally. Life isn't a romantic Bollywood film. The sooner you figure that out, the better.
