'My boyfriend can't handle that I'm also his boss'

My boyfriend reports to me at work and this bothers him a lot. He doesn't say anything specifically, but I can sense his resentment sometimes when we are not at the office. He thinks I can't tell him what to do simply because I happen to be his girlfriend, which is ridiculous. I have tried to get him to see things from my perspective, but he is too hung up on his own sense of importance to accept my point of view. This is beginning to affect our relationship and I'm afraid it will end soon. I don't want it too, but I can't sacrifice my career just because someone I'm dating is being childish, can I? What do you suggest I do?
You're being perfectly reasonable; he is obviously being the exact opposite. You shouldn't have to sacrifice anything for a relationship, never mind your career. If he has a problem with your seniority, he has obviously not moved on from the year 1816 and needs to be informed about the world having changed a little. Your personal and professional lives are different, which is something he ought to figure out soon. If he doesn't and his fragile ego is bruised so easily, you should tell him to deal with it or move on.

My boyfriend always decides where we should party on my birthday, which annoys me because it's as if my opinion doesn't count. I have told him that we won't go to any place he suggests this year, unless I like it. He says I'm being difficult, and should trust his judgement because he always picks places he knows I will like. I don't recommend places on his birthday though, so why does he do this to me?
It's your birthday and you are well within your rights to do as you please and go to any place you like. If he has a problem with that, ask him to deal with it like an adult if possible.
