'My girlfriend thinks I spend too much on shopping'

My girlfriend has a problem with my spending habits. She thinks I buy a lot of frivolous things and this causes a lot of friction between us. It's my money though, and I should have the right to decide what to do with it. I save enough and keep enough aside for things I like, which I believe is perfectly reasonable. She's not my wife, so I don't know why she thinks she should have a say in how I spend anything. Is she being reasonable?
I suppose the way to look at this is to consider where she's coming from. It's not as if she wants you to spend more of your money on her, so it's your well-being that matters to her. This is something that can easily be resolved via open communication. While you are well within your rights to spend your money in any way you choose to, she also has a right to comment by virtue of being an important part of your life.

Please start some kind of column where you can pair up like-minded people in Mumbai. There are so many lonely souls who wish to meet their partners but there is no such platform. I am sure you have so many people writing in to you, so please see if you can create something on these lines. It would be great.

I'm sure it would be great. Unfortunately, a lot of these platforms already exist in the form of apps and do a far better job than any column ever could. When it comes to meeting like-minded people, the Internet has made this easier than ever in human history, so I urge you to check your preferences carefully on social media platforms and connect with people who openly declare the same likes and dislikes as you do. And if that fails, ask your friends to introduce you to people they think you will like hanging out with. I suspect that's how so many of our parents found each other.
