Is it okay for two friends to get into a relationship?

Is it okay for two friends who like each other a lot, but aren't in love, to get into a relationship?
That is something only the people in question can decide. If they both think it's a good idea, and believe the relationship can evolve into something stronger at some point, they can probably give it a shot. Being in love does help a lot though.

Four months ago, I met a cute guy at a party and we got along like a house on fire. We chatted for hours and decided to meet again later that week for coffee. And then, he didn't call. I didn't message him on Facebook or ask my friend about him, considering he was her guest, but I thought it very strange because I got the feeling he really wanted to hang out with me. A week ago, I met him again at a party and I was very cold towards him. He came to me and apologised, saying he was drunk that night and had misplaced my number. He could easily have contacted me via Facebook or asked our common friend for my details, but I didn't say anything. He finally called and has asked me out. Should I go or dump him for what he did?
What you choose to do depends on whether or not you think he deserves a second chance, which, in turn, depends on how badly you want to spend time with him. If you got along well, maybe it makes sense to go out one more time, just to see if there is some chemistry there and more importantly, to figure out if his reasons for not calling make sense. It may simply not have occurred to him to get your contact details from your friend or reach out via Facebook. Either way, you have the option of not meeting him anymore if your date isn't as interesting as your conversation at the party. You have nothing to lose.
