Loved Iktara? Singer Kavita Seth will now perform Sufi numbers in the Capital tomorrow. So tune in

Following the recent acts of terrorism in the Capital which wounded the psyche of Delhiites, come tomorrow and residents of the Capital can look forward to a soulful rendition of Sufi music in Gurgaon which promises
to put a healing balm on the still fresh memories of carnage and destruction.

Kavita Seth will perform Sufi music

Award-wining singer Kavita Seth, best known for her song Gunja Sa Koi Iktara from the Ranbir Kapoor-Konkona Sen Sharma starrer Wake Up Sid for which she won a Filmfare Award last year, says that she personally prefers Sufiana music. Kavita explains her first love Sufiana in her own words: "Sufi music is not just entertainment but is about the spiritual outpourings of the heart. When I sing, I attempt to take the audience to the beautiful realm of divine love and mercy." Much affected by the recent Delhi High court bomb blast, Kavita said that according to her one of the best remedies for such social evils is spreading the universal love of Sufiana.
For Kavita, Sufi music is not just about profession but also a labour of love for God as she only chooses to give musical overtones on works of writers who are 'genuine' and not manufacturers for the masses.

She explains: "In the industry, people are only concerned with what the 'audience' will accept. I am more concerned with what my heart will accept. I go through the lyrics first, if I feel it is manufactured I do not sing it." Kavita explains that in the name of Sufi music, lyricists add words like maula and rab, but that is not Sufiana. Although she loves singing works of Sufi stalwarts like Melvana Rumi and Bulleh Shah, she is constantly searching for contemporary Sufi poetry which is straight from the heart. So if you want to hear pure Sufi music unblemished by taints of commercialism, then this show is definitely for you.
