After Abbas Mastan, the well-known director-duo of Bollywood got so inspired from Italy that they made a film 'Players' that is inspired from the 2003 movie 'Italian Job' it's time you saw some goodu00a0 Italian cinema. So here it is, the Italian Embassy is screening the Italian movie, I Vicere (The Viceroys) this Saturday at the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre The movie is set in the background of mid 1800's and is based on au00a0 novel by Federico De Roberto. The novelu00a0 that was banned for 100 years as it set off a scandal at the end of the 19th century.
A scene from I Vicere The film narrates the history of Sicily through one of its dignified families, the 'Uzeda family'. The family that is descendants of the Viceroys of Spain reunites at the time of the death of Princess Teresa. Consalvo, the last descendant of the family grows up in an environment full ofu00a0 conspiracies and mysteries as everybody is fighting for the princess's inheritance. The young boy's only relief in his childhood days is the company of his loving mother and a sister as the father is a detached man who leaves his dying wife to marry a cousin. The father of Consalvo was always more interested in family patrimony than the family affairs. Growing up in a childhood like this Consalvo becomes a rebel but soon the world teaches him a lesson and changes him entirely. He starts to read and travel. I have read the novel this movie is based on. It's an overtly political film with much drama but unlike our mainstream Bollywood movies where there is only drama.
