My hubby can't understand my concern for stray dogs

Dear Diana,
I have been married four years now and I absolutely love my husband. The problem is that I spend a substantial amount of time every day volunteering to help distressed stray dogs on the road. My husband feels he has become second priority in my life, but that's not true. How do I make him understand that while I love animals, I am equally committed to our marriage? How do I restore peace at home?u00a0

Dear Mehvish,
You are extremely concerned about the welfare of stray dogs and there are quite a few out there who share similar thoughts. But then there are a larger number out there who don't share such sentiments. You are married to a guy who belongs to the latter category. Trying to convince him about the need to do so will be a tough proposition and it will take a long time. As long as you don't become obsessive about your passion, it is okay. There is a place and time for everything. Steer clear from making conversations about strays when he is around. Keep that for the animal care volunteers who share your thoughts. Also, picking up every stray dog in sight when you are out with him and his folks is something that might put him off. Keep that for your individual outings. Also, tell him like every person has a calling for something. And yours is animal welfare. I am sure he was aware of it when he tied the knot, so by now he should be ready to accept you and your passion. But as long as he does not end up leading a dog's life!
