The most recent addition to Weight Watchers' roster of celebrity spokespeople is former US basketball star Charles Barkley, who uses the tagline "Lose Like a Man" in a sleek, masculine ad campaign set against a black and grey color scheme with the soundtrack of a bluesy electric guitar.
The ads, which rolled out across North American TV stations Christmas Day, are the Weight Watchers equivalent to Jenny Craig's ads with US actor Jason Alexander.
Meanwhile, the DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) maintains its ranking as the Best Diet Overall for 2012 and is endorsed by the US National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. The plan focuses on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy foods and lean proteins and has been proven to lower blood pressure in 14 days.
Followers of the DASH Diet report a 10 to 35 lb (4.5 kg to 15 kg) weight loss in a few months.
