Mumbai Food: Colaba pop-up offers authentic Bohri dish

25 April,2017 08:20 AM IST |  Mumbai  |  Krutika Behrawala

Sign up for a pop-up to relish Bheja Masala, an authentic Bohri dish minus the rustic vibe of the culinary hotspot

The meal is served on a traditional thaal

As the sun sets, a number of roadside stalls pop up at Bohri Mohalla, the grub neighbourhood in Bhendi Bazaar, to offer delectable fare, including kebabs and Bheja Masala, a tangy-spicy preparation made using brains of the goat, cooked in a base of tomato and fried onions. If you're keen to relish this dish, sans the grungy surroundings, head to The Bohri Kitchen's pop-up, Bheja Fry With TBK, this weekend.

Nafisa Kapadia with son, Munaf

Nafisa Kapadia, the head chef of the venture launched by her son, Munaf, two years ago, will be making this dish. "This is the first time she is offering Bheja Masala. She has learnt it from her mother-in-law," shares Hamza Haveliwala, a member of TBK.

Chicken Seekh Biryani

The meal also includes Smoked Mutton Kheema Samosas, Krim Tikka comprising deep-fried, marinated boneless chicken and Gol Roti, a traditional Bohri treat where jaggery is layered with ghee and served with roti. For mains, relish Raan In Kaju Gravy and Chicken Seekh Biryani, a traditional slow-cooked Bohri dum biryani. Cool off with an Aam Panna and Jal Jeera Soda, and end the meal with hand-churned Saancha Ice Cream and Paan.
