If you are a collegian looking to study out of home, sign up for a workshop that equips you to be an out-of-towner with ease

Adulting is hard, but add cooking to that equation, and life may seem like a total nightmare. Figuring out how to feed yourself is quite like rocket-science when you're moving out for college, settling in, juggling assignments, deadlines and your grades.

Staying hungry (or foolish), is hardly any solution, so, Magazine Street Kitchen's upcoming workshop is a palatable alternative. College Survival 101 aims to ease the burden on college students by helping them whip up comfort food.

Quesadillas in the making

The Byculla food studio's head chef, Divesh Aswani, will conduct the session. He will guide participants with a brief on a diverse menu that incorporates French, Italian and Mexican cuisine, among others. With both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options included, the menu ranges from pesto pasta salad, quesadillas, classical french omelette to beer battered fish and buttermilk fried chicken burgers. To top it off, learn to make chocolate mousse for dessert!

The best part - this doesn't require you to be a walking food encyclopaedia (although, you might become one). The workshop is extremely beginner-friendly, Daswani assures, while adding that cooking is an important life-skill.

"When I was 17, I attended Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney. I would eat smoked salmon, for instance, but I didn't know how to cook. It is 'that' time of the year again and students should be well-equipped to go to university," he recalls his own struggle with food as a student.

Participants at the event will witness a traditional pantry setup at what can be expected to be one of the finest live kitchens in the city. They will learn to weigh and measure the ingredients themselves and will soon be ready to present a family-style meal.
