K-fashion gets a Mumbai makeover with Gen-Z, and here's how they are staying stylish

Trends rarely arrive in Mumbai exactly as they are seen elsewhere. They pass through the city's streets, social feeds, and packed local trains, evolving along the way. Korean fashion is one such influence being reworked by Mumbai's youth, with K-dramas helping bring its polished silhouettes, oversized layers, and understand styling into the spotlight.

Shows such as Queen of Tears (2024) have brought sleek minimalism and quiet luxury into focus, while Lovely Runner (2024) reflects the appeal of cool denim, oversized layers and college-inspired dressing. Business Proposal (2022), meanwhile, has made structured blazers, feminine separates, and soft knitwear feel fresh and accessible.

But Mumbai's take on K-fashion is more about functionality in everyday life. "The Mumbai version of K-fashion is practical, climate-conscious, and often more expressive," says stylist Divya Sacheti. The result is a wardrobe that borrows Korean silhouettes and styling cues, while making room for the city's humidity, long commutes, and fast-paced lifestyle.
