Mumbai's love for romantic comedies is set to take centre stage as The Abstract Room hosts Everything Romedy, an interactive game show dedicated to iconic rom-com films, songs and characters. The event promises an evening of quizzes, music, dance and friendly competition for pop-culture enthusiasts.

Sankalp Sharma

Founded by Sankalp Sharma, The Abstract Room is a six-year-old community platform that brings together people who share a passion for movies, music and books. The organisation has gradually shifted from film screenings and open mics to more participatory experiences. "We want to create something more interactive and engaging that could bring together a wider audience," says Sharma. "These game shows are built around themes people have grown up with and genuinely enjoy. This time, we're celebrating rom-coms." Unlike conventional trivia nights that test factual knowledge, the event will focus on participation and entertainment. Attendees can expect challenges such as identifying films from visual clues, completing song lyrics and recognising rom-com tracks from screenshots and snippets.

"It's not a trivia night in the traditional sense," Sharma says. "The questions are designed to make people sing, dance, laugh and connect with one another. It's essentially a social gathering built around shared pop-culture memories." The event is aimed at college students, young professionals and groups of friends looking for a unique weekend activity. Participants will compete in teams of three to four, while solo attendees will be matched with a team on arrival. Drawing inspiration from titles such as Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Notting Hill and F.R.I.E.N.D.S, the event seeks to turn nostalgia into a lively, community-driven experience.
