In a late-night crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell's (ANC's) Kandivali Unit seized 292 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.16 crore and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in Andheri West, Mumbai, on Tuesday.

According to ANC officers, the two arrested suspects - one a native of Uttar Pradesh and the other from Bihar - had been living in the Bandra area for the past few months. They had allegedly travelled to Andheri to deliver a consignment of heroin when they were intercepted.

The Kandivali Unit had received specific intelligence that two men would arrive near Andheri Railway Station (west side) to supply the contraband. Acting on the tip-off, ANC officers laid a trap and detained the duo. Following a search, they recovered 292 grams of high-grade heroin from their possession, valued at Rs 1.16 crore in the illicit market.

A senior officer said the seizure is linked to a wider narcotics distribution network operating across Mumbai and adjoining regions.

"These two appear to be lower-level carriers. The network behind them is larger, and we are interrogating the accused to identify their handlers and financiers," the officer said.

Sources added that teams have already identified several individuals associated with the racket and that more arrests are imminent. Preliminary inquiries suggest the duo had come to Andheri to supply drugs for the first time, indicating they may have been recently recruited into the chain.

ANC has registered a case and further investigation is underway.
