A two-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into a water-filled tub inside his home in the Titwala area of Thane district in Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.

The incident took place on Sunday when the boy, identified as Yuvansh Yadav, was playing while his parents were having dinner.

According to police, Yuvansh's parents later found him unresponsive inside a water-filled tub in the bathroom.

Rushed to hospital

They rushed him to a private hospital in Titwala for treatment. He was subsequently taken to Central Railway Hospital in Kalyan, where doctors declared him dead, according to the PTI.

Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and was conducting further investigations into the matter.

The Pune incident

A two-year-old boy died after falling into a nearly three-foot-deep trench filled with rainwater and sewage in Maharashtra's Pune district in June, police said.

The incident took place on June 30 at Kadamwak Wasti in the Loni gram panchayat area, according to police.

According to officials, the trench had been dug alongside a drain to facilitate the flow of rainwater. Rainwater and sewage subsequently accumulated in the trench.

The toddler, who lived in a nearby settlement, accidentally fell into the trench while playing, police said.

After realising that the child was missing, his parents began searching for him. His body was later recovered from the trench.

Contractor booked over alleged negligence

Days after the incident, police registered a case against the contractor for alleged negligence in failing to provide adequate safety measures at the site.

Latur drowning incident

In a similar incident in May this year, two children had drowned in an open pit used for collecting wastewater. The Latur Municipal Corporation had later suspended two employees and a case of culpable homicide was registered against both of them., the news agency had earlier reported.

According to the PTI, the incident happened in the Bodhe Nagar area of Ward No 16 in Latur district, sparking massive outrage among local residents.

Both the deceased had apparently entered the pit, filled with water, to retrieve a ball. Unaware of the depth, both children drowned on the spot.
