The Aarey police have arrested three youths for allegedly sexually assaulting and blackmailing a 17-year-old girl. The survivor had reportedly come in contact with one of the accused, a 21-year-old student, through social media.
According to the police, the two remained in contact before the girl met the accused at Royal Palms in Aarey Colony last month. As per her complaint, the accused allegedly took her to a rented premises, where he gave her a drink containing an intoxicating substance and sexually assaulted her.
The accused allegedly then blackmailed the girl into meeting his associates, who also allegedly sexually assaulted her. She was subsequently allegedly forced to meet another associate, who also sexually assaulted her, according to the complaint.
The matter came to light after the survivor's mother noticed that her daughter was spending long hours on social media. She also made enquiries at her daughter's college and learned that she had not attended classes for several days. After speaking to her daughter, the mother took her to Aarey police station, where police recorded the survivor's statement and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"We have arrested all three accused. They are aged between 21 and 23 years; one of them is a student, and the others are working individuals," an Aarey police officer told mid-day. "During the investigation, we questioned the accused, who allegedly gave a different account of events and claimed that the survivor had initiated contact and invited them to meet her and forced them to have sex," the officer added.
Police said further investigation has been launched into the complaint.
