A 36-year-old Khar resident was arrested for allegedly renewing an arms licence in Nagaland using a forged police clearance certificate and other fake documents. The alleged fraud came to light after Nagaland police sought verification from Khar police, who found that the documents submitted by the accused were fabricated. The accused, identified as Faiz Irfan Adenwala, 36, works in the car-dealing business.
According to police, Adenwala had applied for the renewal of an arms licence originally issued in Nagaland. When Nagaland police contacted Khar police for document verification, investigators found that the police clearance certificate and supporting documents submitted by the accused were fake. "The accused used a fake police clearance certificate while renewing an arms licence that had originally been issued in Nagaland. Investigations revealed that he had illegally secured the renewal of the licence in Nagaland on the basis of forged documents," a police officer said.
>> Police said the accused possessed a firearm under the licence in question.
>> Investigators also found that he had not submitted mandatory information about the weapon to Mumbai Commissionerate, as required under law.
Police said they established the accused's direct involvement during the investigation. He was produced before the Bandra court, which remanded him to police custody till June 2.
A police clearance certificate (PCC) is an official document issued by police authorities certifying whether an individual has any criminal record or adverse police history. It is often required for arms licence applications, renewals, immigration processes and certain government clearances.
