Mumbai: Five arrested for allegedly killing Juhu security guard during robbery bid

Five people, including a family cook, have been arrested for allegedly killing a security guard of a residential building in Juhu and unsuccessfully trying to enter a flat for committing a robbery, police said on Saturday.

According to PTI, the accused allegedly strangled security guard Manojkumar Yadav (38) with a cloth rope, tied his hands, and dumped the body in the water tank of the building, a police official said.

The murder came to light when residents began searching for a missing Yadav. Police formed multiple teams to investigate the case and, with the help of technical evidence, zeroed in on Jogeshwar Udan Mallik alias Kishan, who worked as a cook at the house of a businessman living in the building.

Malik allegedly confessed to hatching a plan to kill his employer along with his wife and the daughter and rob cash and jewelry from the flat.

The police officials while briefing about the case, said, "The conspiracy was in the works for nearly two years."

As per PTI, Mallik allegedly enlisted the help of Vijay Gonzare, brothers Sharad Yerudkar (41) and Mahadev Yerudkar (35), and Aniket Bornak (30) to execute his plan.

How the incident folded

On the intervening night of August 1 and 2, the accused gathered near the building and drank with Yadav. Then they allegedly strangled the security guard and dumped the body in the water tank.

Furthermore, at around 4 am, the accused went to the sixth floor and tried to enter the flat of Malik's employer using a duplicate key. However, they failed to open the door and fled the spot, police said.

The officials also said that further investigation is underway.

Palghar court awards death penalty to man for raping, killing nine-year-old girl

A court in Maharashtra's Palghar district has sentenced a 51-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Dahanu taluka in 2021, describing the crime as one of extreme brutality that shocked both the judiciary and society, reported the PTI.

Additional Sessions Judge A.R. Rahane also imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the convict, Pramul alias Praffula alias Pramod Ratna Ghoshe, a local grocer.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on September 27, 2021, in Ranshet Vangadpada village in Dahanu.
