A 24-year-old man was arrested after a person died during an altercation at a canteen in Mumbai's Chandivali area, Mumbai Police said.
The incident took place on Saturday night at the terrace canteen of Pankaj Building, located behind the Ice Factory in Powai area.
Police have registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
According to police, the accused allegedly began assaulting Fekan Mahato following a minor dispute.
When another worker, identified as 21-year-old Priteshkumar Mahato attempted to intervene and stop the fight, the accused allegedly pushed Fekan Mahato with force.
The victim lost his balance and fell into a broken sliding glass window, suffering severe injuries.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
Based on the complaint lodged by Priteshkumar Mahato, Powai Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday.
Police invoked Sections 103 (murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Police arrested the 24-year-old accused shortly after registering the case.
Officials said further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal altercation.
