Gambling den raid: Mumbai Police detain 33 in Chembur, seize betting tools worth over Rs 3.3 crore

In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling, Mumbai Police Crime Branch Unit 8 raided a large-scale gambling den in Chembur East on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off from an informant, officers targeted the third floor of Vasant Vihar Commercial Complex, located in Dr C Gidwani Road.

During the operation, 33 people were detained, including the gambling den operator, a cashier, and 31 players. Authorities seized cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh, along with gambling equipment worth over Rs 3.3 crore, a digital payment machine, and foreign liquor worth Rs 10,000. The gambling tools included cards, chips, and other devices used to run the illegal betting operations.

A case has been registered at RCF Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act, 1887, and Section 65 of the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 2019.

The accused have currently been remanded in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
