Mumbai Police on Thursday filed a detailed 1,624-page chargesheet before a special court under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in connection with the firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Juhu, reported PTI.

The incident took place in the early hours of February 1, when at least five rounds were fired at the first floor of Shetty's nine-storey building. One of the bullets reportedly struck the glass of a gym located within the premises.

Two accused declared wanted; links to Lawrence Bishnoi gang emerge

According to police officials, 15 individuals have been arrested so far, while Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi have been named as wanted accused. Both are believed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and had allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post, reported PTI.

Lonkar is also wanted in other high-profile cases, including the murder of Baba Siddique and a previous firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's residence in Bandra.

Probe reveals detailed planning and reconnaissance

Investigations have revealed that the accused conducted reconnaissance of Shetty's residence on at least three occasions before executing the attack. Police said the group acted under instructions from Lonkar, reported PTI.

Officials further stated that some of the accused had consumed alcohol in a nearby area prior to the incident, after which the alleged shooter proceeded to carry out the plan, reported PTI.

Shooter fled to Kalyan, regrouped before escape

The alleged shooter, identified as Deepak Sharma, along with three others, travelled to Juhu on the day of the incident. After the firing, they reportedly fled in an autorickshaw to Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district, reported PTI.

Police said the accused regrouped at a residence in Kalyan before fleeing to northern states by train. Kalyan was used as a key meeting point, as one of the accused had previously resided there for an extended period, reported PTI.

Arrests made across multiple states; hideout traced to Haryana

Investigators tracked the accused to a hideout in Haryana, which was allegedly arranged by another accused, Ritik Yadav, who has since been arrested, reported PTI.

Those arrested in the case include several individuals in the 20-25 age group, with police noting that some of them were known to each other but did not have direct links with gang members apprehended in Pune.

Authorities confirmed that the accused were apprehended from locations in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana during coordinated operations.

Wider conspiracy under investigation, including role of associates

Police have also taken into custody Pravin Lonkar, brother of Shubham Lonkar, for his alleged role in the conspiracy. He is suspected to have been involved in arranging weapons, facilitating financial transactions, and influencing other accused, reported PTI.

Investigators are continuing to examine the broader network and financial trail linked to the case, including potential connections to organised crime syndicates, reported PTI.

MCOCA invoked as probe highlights organised crime angle

The stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act has been invoked in the case, indicating the seriousness of the alleged conspiracy and its links to organised criminal activity.

Officials said the chargesheet outlines the sequence of events, roles of the accused, and evidence gathered during the investigation.
