Techie rapes colleague by promising marriage

Cops claim the two had been in a relationship since 2010 during which the accused promised that he would marry her soon, before taking advantage of the victim


Officials of the Hinjewadi police station registered a case against a 29-year-old man for allegedly raping his 25-year-old colleague, a software techie, by promising her that he would marry her.

The accused was identified as Rohit Sureshchandra Yadav, a resident of Pimpri.u00a0Yadav hails from Andhra Pradesh and worked alongside the victim in Hinjewadi IT Park.

Police officials said the two had been in a relationship since 2010, during which Yadav took advantage of the woman by promising that he would marry her soon. But a few months ago he married another girl. This irked the victim, who then approached the police and lodged a complaint against Yadav.

Arrest later: Court
Yadav was granted bail on the condition that he would cooperate with the investigators. The court directed the police not to arrest him until July 17.

Charges
After Yadav secured bail, an FIR was registered against him on Saturday under sections 420 (cheating), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
