Taking notice of reports of alleged rape of a minor girl in Gadchiroli, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women has directed the district Superintendent of Police to submit a detailed report. In a letter to the SP, the commission noted that the alleged rape of the girl, a class 5th student of a school in Dhanora tehsil, was reportedly brought to the notice of a caste panchayat, which tried to suppress it.
"The commission has taken notice of the issue, which is serious and shameful in nature. You are directed to file a detailed report immediately on the steps taken by the department to ascertain the facts and subsequently take the required action," the commission said.
