The Thane Police on Friday issued a traffic advisory in the Kapurbawdi area due to water pipeline strengthening and expansion work being undertaken by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
According to a traffic notification, the work is part of the city's water supply improvement project and will involve laying a pipeline along the main Thane-Ghodbunder Road near the BCL Petrol Pump at Majiwada.
Authorities said the restrictions are necessary to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of commuters during the construction period.
The traffic notification stated that diversions will remain effective from 7 pm on June 5, 2026 until 8 pm on June 8, 2026.
Motorists travelling through the affected stretch are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes wherever possible, the Thane Traffic Police said.
According to the advisory, vehicles travelling from the Nashik-Mumbai carriageway towards Ghodbunder Road and Gokul Nagar will not be allowed to enter via the service road near the Majiwada flyover.
Traffic police have imposed the restriction to facilitate uninterrupted pipeline installation work in the area, officials said.
Vehicles heading towards the affected stretch will be diverted through the Majiwada Business Park road and further via alternate route to reach their destinations.
Traffic officials have requested motorists to follow diversion signs and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic movement.
According to the traffic notification, the restrictions will not apply to emergency and essential service vehicles, including:
- Police vehicles
- Fire brigade vehicles
- Ambulances
- Green corridor vehicles
- Oxygen supply vehicles
- Other emergency response vehicles
Officials said all necessary arrangements have been made to minimise inconvenience to residents and commuters.
The Thane Traffic Police have appealed to citizens and the motorists, travelling on the route, to follow traffic instructions and use alternate routes.
The police have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected area during the notified period.
The police officials stated that the temporary restrictions are intended to ensure public safety while allowing critical civic infrastructure work to be completed efficiently.
