A 40-Year-old was killed after he was hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle in Vile Parle East, late on Monday night. While the vehicle escaped from the scene, the pedestrian, who was lying in a pool of blood, succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Raju Ashiya. Ashiya, a resident of Bamanwada in Vile Parle East, lived with his brother and family.
According to the police, the incident took place around 10.40 pm when Ashiya was returning home. He was crossing the road near Hotel Sai Siddhi, when a speeding vehicle hit him. Ashiya suffered injuries to his chest and was rushed to a nearby hospital after locals spotted him on the road. He was, however, declared dead on arrival. "We have registered a case against the unknown driver of the vehicle under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. We are looking for the accused," said an officer from the Vile Parle police station. The police are investigating CCTV footage in the area.
