Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in infrastructure-related issues affecting Chakan and Hinjewadi, warning that inadequate basic facilities could prompt industries to move out of the state.

Thackeray said he visited Hinjewadi after travelling to Chakan, where he met people working in the IT sector and local residents. He said he had appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure that assurances made by the government are implemented instead of being repeatedly announced.

"In the last 5 years in Maharashtra, 36,211 industries have shut down or moved out of the state," Thackeray said in a post on X.

He attributed the alleged movement of industries out of Maharashtra to deteriorating infrastructure and alleged corruption in the state administration.

Chakan industries raise concerns over infrastructure

Thackeray said 20 industries in Chakan have announced plans to move out of the area, citing infrastructure-related concerns.

He said the Industry Minister visited Chakan following his own visit and spent around five hours there, during which several measures were announced.

"After my visit, the Industry Minister had to visit there; he spent about 5 hours and showered announcements. To see whether the assurances given by the minister are being fulfilled, I will visit Chakan again next month," Thackeray said.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said he planned to return to Chakan to assess whether the commitments made by the government had translated into action on the ground.

Hinjewadi IT sector faces basic infrastructure issues

Thackeray also raised concerns about conditions in Hinjewadi, a major IT and business hub. During his visit, he said he met employees working in the IT sector as well as residents and discussed problems affecting the area.

He said he had submitted a list of demands concerning Hinjewadi and surrounding areas to the Chief Minister, describing them as basic requirements for both residents and businesses.

"Similarly, for Hinjewadi and the surrounding areas, the demands I have made to the Chief Minister are mentioned in this letter. These demands are extremely basic; if they are not met, industries will migrate elsewhere," he said.

Thackeray's concerns centre on the impact of inadequate infrastructure on the area's residents, employees and businesses. He has called for the government to address these issues rather than limit its response to assurances and announcements.

Residents plan protest on September 6

Thackeray said residents of Hinjewadi and nearby areas have planned a protest on September 6 to highlight their concerns.

He said his party would support the proposed demonstration.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader's remarks come amid a wider political debate over Maharashtra's ability to retain and attract industries. Thackeray has argued that improvements to basic infrastructure are essential to ensuring that established industrial and IT hubs such as Chakan and Hinjewadi remain competitive.

He has also indicated that he will continue to follow up on the government's commitments, including through another visit to Chakan next month, to assess whether the measures announced by ministers have been implemented.
