Aparna Mahadik, a senior crew member aboard the ill-fated Air India Flight AI171 that crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday, has been confirmed among the deceased. Aparna was the daughter-in-law of Sunil Tatkare's younger sister, Tatkare is a Member of Parliament from Raigad district and chief of the Maharashtra NCP.
Tatkare told news agencies: "Aparna is the daughter-in-law of my younger sister. Her family lives in Goregaon, Mumbai. My nephew, Aparna's husband, is also a cabin crew member with Air India. He was in Delhi at the time of the incident. The Mahadik family has been informed about the tragedy." Aparna Mahadik, 42, was on duty as senior cabin crew when the London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, killing all 242 people on board.
She lived with her husband, Amol Mahadik - a pilot with Air India - their six-year-old daughter, and her in-laws at Oberoi Esquire, Ciba Road, off Western Express Highway, Goregaon East, Mumbai. As news of the crash broke, several relatives and political leaders rushed to the residence. Among them was Maharashtra Minister Yogesh Kadam, who also lives in the same complex. Kadam personally visited the family and offered his condolences.
"This is an incredibly tragic incident. My deepest sympathies are with the family. In this moment of sorrow, I stand firmly with them," Kadam told reporters. MP Sunil Tatkare and former minister Aditi Tatkare also visited the residence to support the grieving family.
