Mumbai witnessed peaceful Eid al-Adha 2026 celebrations on Thursday as sea of Muslim devotees gathered across mosques, Eidgahs and open grounds to offer morning prayers with faith and devotion.
Several parts of the city saw large congregations from the early hours of the day, with devotees greeting each other and celebrating Eid al-Adha in a spirit of unity and prayer.
The road outside Bandra railway station in Bandra West was packed with devotees offering namaz during the morning prayers.
Thousands from the Muslim community also gathered at the YMCA Ground in Agripada to offer special Eid prayers together, marking the festival with collective devotion and large-scale participation.
In Navi Mumbai, people offered Eid al-Adha prayers at Eidgahs amid peaceful celebrations.
Large gatherings were also witnessed at Noorani Masjid in Pathanwadi, where special security arrangements had been made at the mosque premises.
Meanwhile, devotees offered Eid al-Adha prayers near Jama Masjid on Malvani Road Number 7 in Malad amid heavy police deployment.
A large turnout of devotees was also seen during Eid al-Adha prayers at Mahim Dargah.
The festival comes days after tensions erupted at the Poonam Estate Cluster society in Thane district's Mira Road over the sacrifice of goats during Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Residents of the housing society said the situation remained peaceful on Eid al-Adha and thanked the police for maintaining security in the area.
One resident said, "I thank the Mumbai Police for providing security round-the-clock for the last three to four days during the festival. There are no clashes happening and all festivities are taking place peacefully. We live in a society where both Hindus and Muslims live together, and whatever issues had taken place earlier will also be resolved."
Another resident added, "We celebrate all festivals here, Eid, Moharram, Holi, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and New Year. All of us live together here. We thank the police for protecting us after the clashes and ensuring that the outside tensions did not affect the society."
A third resident said the clash was triggered due to outsiders and misinformation being circulated among people.
Police personnel continued to remain stationed near the society to maintain peace, provide protection to residents and prevent any further tensions.
Reacting to the Mira Road incident, Waris Pathan alleged that attempts were being made to create communal tensions during Eid celebrations.
Pathan said, "This is absolutely a tactic to harass Muslims. The hateful characters whose sole intention was to create Hindu-Muslim conflict committed a shameful act in Mira Road."
Speaking on the occasion, a resident from Navi Mumbai said Eid al-Adha holds immense importance for Muslims across the world.
"Every year, Muslims worship, work hard, save money and earn through their efforts. On Eid, they dedicate a portion of their earnings in the path of Allah by offering a sacrificial animal," the resident said.
Mumbai Police maintained tight security arrangements across the city to ensure peaceful celebrations during Eid al-Adha.
Police conducted nakabandi at Girgaon Chowpatty and checked vehicles to maintain law and order.
Security personnel were also deployed outside major mosques and prayer grounds across the city, including Bandra, Malad, Mahim and other sensitive locations, as devotees gathered in large numbers for Eid prayers.
