The expected fireworks at the Bandra Gymkhana in Bandra West on Sunday (August 9) morning fizzled out on Saturday (August 8) evening, after president Dr Cheryl Misquitta resigned.
Earlier, members of the club at St Andrews Road were called for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Sunday morning through a notice signed by Honorary Secretary Theresa Aguiar, and there was to be a vote by secret ballot on a resolution which would decide whether Misquitta retained her chair or would be removed.
A battle royale was brewing during the EGM run-up, with social media chats in overdrive. On Saturday night, however, it was learnt that Misquitta tendered her resignation, with the Bandra Gymkhana intimating members about the cancelled EGM. Aguiar said that the resignation came as a surprise. "The club will have an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September where we will have elections for the president," she said.
Dr Cheryl Misquitta could not be reached for comment.
