Central Railway has recorded scrap sales worth Rs 323.50 crore during the first six months of the 2026-27 financial year, the highest among all zonal railways, according to an official statement.
The railway zone recorded scrap sales of Rs 70.42 crore in September alone, its highest-ever monthly scrap sale, as part of its ongoing 'Zero Scrap Mission'.
Central Railway said it disposed of 4,884 metric tonnes of scrap worth Rs 44.24 crore during the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, held from September 17 to October 2.
The Materials Management (Stores) Department carried out drives across railway premises to identify, segregate and systematically dispose of accumulated scrap and obsolete assets.
The campaign was conducted under the theme 'Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat'.
The scrap disposal drive during FY 2026-27 covered a wide range of railway assets.
These included 29,993 metric tonnes of rail P-Way scrap, 1,72,195 sleepers, 15,547 metric tonnes of ferrous scrap and 1,999 metric tonnes of non-ferrous scrap.
Central Railway also disposed of 23 locomotives, 62 coaches and 70 wagons, along with 46.85 metric tonnes of e-waste.
The railway said the removal of obsolete material has helped free up space at yards, workshops, depots and trackside locations.
Among Central Railway's divisions, Bhusaval recorded the highest contribution to cumulative scrap sales at Rs 57.27 crore.
It was followed by Mumbai division with Rs 52.08 crore, Pune division with Rs 47.55 crore and Nagpur division with Rs 46.08 crore. Solapur division contributed Rs 14.69 crore, with the remaining amount coming from other depots.
Central Railway also recorded Rs 1.11 crore in cumulative e-waste sales during the current financial year up to September.
Central Railway said the initiative is aimed at converting accumulated and unserviceable material into revenue while improving cleanliness and safety across railway premises.
The systematic disposal of scrap also helps improve the use of railway space, conserve resources and support recycling and the principles of a circular economy.
The railway said sustained drives across its divisions and depots have strengthened its commitment towards achieving 'Zero Scrap Status' and supporting the objectives of Swachhata Se Samriddhi.
