Covid-19: Mumbai’s doubling rate improves, state records 443 deaths

After recording 929 cases on May 28, the lowest in the second wave, Mumbai witnessed a marginal rise in daily Covid-19 cases on Friday. However, the city saw a dip in Covid-19 fatalities and reported 25 deaths on Friday.

Mumbai had a marginal rise in test positivity rate, but maintained TPR below 4 per cent. The TPR was 3.14 per cent on Friday, lowest so far in the second wave. It was 3.91 per cent on Saturday.

The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5, when the TPR was recorded 10.96 per cent. May 20 was the first time in the second wave that the TPR had gone below 5 per cent. On May 21, TPR was 4.28 per cent.

The doubling rate has continued to significantly improve and is now at 370 days.

Of the 30 deaths in Mumbai, 15 patients had co-morbidities. Thirteen deaths were in the age group of 60 years and above, while nine deaths were reported in 40-60 age group.

The city's recovery rate has improved and was at 94 percent on Saturday. The number of people who have recovered and been discharged stands at 1,359.

Maharashtra saw a marginal drop in new cases on Saturday. As per the state report, 20,295 new cases were reported across the state. The state also saw a marginal rise in Covid-19 fatalities and witnessed 443 deaths across the state.

The BMC has declared that there will be no vaccination drive on Sunday at the public vaccination centres. On Saturday, 55,843 beneficiaries were inoculated at several civic, government and private centres.
