Covid-19: No walk-in vaccination for anyone in Mumbai today

Vaccination against Covid-19 will be carried out at select centres with limited stock for the age group of 45 years and above on Friday between 1 pm and 5 pm and vaccination won't be held over the weekend. Further, the civic body won't allow walk-ins even for health and frontline workers on Friday. After a letter from the Centre, the interval between two doses of Covishield has been revised to 12 to 16 weeks from the earlier six to eight weeks.

Booking for vaccination slots for those in the age group of 45 and above started around 9.30 pm on Thursday. The vaccination of those aged between 18 and 44 years stopped at civic and government centres on Thursday and for the rest of the categories, it continued. With limited stocks, most centres at ward levels will administer 100 doses, while jumbo Covid-19 centres and major hospitals will administer 200. With the civic body not giving doses to the younger lot, the 18-44 years group has been turning to private centres. On Thursday, 6,491 people from the category were vaccinated at four private vaccination centres. The daily average of these centres was around 300 to 400 doses per day. "As of now, private centres can administer vaccines for the age group of 18 to 44 years. It is a paid facility," said Suresh Kakani, additional municipal commissioner.

On Thursday, a total of 6,541 people from the younger lot were vaccinated during the second shift of Wednesday and the first shift on Thursday. Of these, 50 doses were administered in civic-run centres and the rest were in private centres like H N Reliance, Criticare, Kohinoor and Nanavati hospitals. A total of 31,377 doses were administered, out of which 10,953 were for senior citizens above 60 years and 12,184 were for the age group of 45 to 60 years.
