Mumbai Police, probing the murder of software engineer Esther Anuhya, have unofficially announced a Rs five lakh cash reward to anyone providing information about the man spotted with her in a CCTV footage from Kurla Railway Terminus on the day she went missing.

The blurred photo of the man extracted from CCTV footage has already been distributed among informers.

A senior crime branch officer said, "Informants have been activated and told that they would be rewarded Rs five lakh in cash if their information leads to the arrest of the murderer. Any citizen providing valuable information leading the accused's arrest will also be rewarded."

The officer described it as an "unofficial" announcement as the reward would be paid from police's "secret fund".

The officer added, "Very soon, more clear photograph of the man will be ready, which we may make available to the general public, seeking their assistance."

Police recently questioned the parents of the 23-year-old victim, who worked with TCS in suburban Goregaon in Mumbai. She was a native of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Police are still clueless about the mysterious disappearance of Esther from Kurla railway terminus here on January 5.

Her decomposed body was found off the Eastern Express Highway here on January 16 and investigation is on to ascertain whether she was sexually assaulted before the death.
