Maharashtra FDA shuts down Marian Hotel in Dadar, three other outlets

The food licence of Marian Hotel & Restaurant on Gokhale Road in Dadar West has been suspended after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found violations, including cockroach-infested kitchens, heavily rusted utensils, and cooked food stored beneath damp staircases covered in fungal growth.

Action against four

The action between August 25 and 27, led to suspension for four food establishments across Mumbai. Apart from the Dadar eatery, operations of Akshay Caters at Garware Institute of Career Education & Development in Mumbai University's Kalina Campus, Craftpac Hospitality inside Jio World Drive at BKC, and Bhagwati Stores at Radhika Residency in Tilak Nagar, Chembur, were shut.

Scenes of utter neglect

During surprise inspections, food safety officers walked into kitchens where cockroaches and insects were found crawling, while vats of blackened, over-oxidised cooking oil were being repeatedly reused to fry snacks. In several kitchens, chefs were found pumping dishes with excessive and unregulated amounts of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and synthetic colours to mask poor quality.
